Together, we’re building something powerful

Every door knocked, every phone call made, and every event attended brings us closer to Daria being our next Mayor

What’s the most important thing I can do to help?

Talk to people! Whether that’s at their door, on the phone, or at an event, spreading the word about Daria is the most powerful thing you can do. People trust recommendations from friends, family, and neighbors—your voice is more impactful than any ad or flyer. If we all commit to having conversations, we will win this race.

I keep hearing about door knocking—what exactly is it?

Door knocking, or canvassing, is one of the most effective ways to connect with voters. It means going door to door in a neighborhood, introducing yourself as a volunteer for Daria’s campaign, and having conversations with residents about the upcoming election. We use a simple script to guide the conversation, and our goal is to identify supporters, answer questions, and make sure people know why Daria is the best choice for Erie. It’s all about building relationships and making sure voters feel seen and heard.

Why is door knocking so important? Can’t people just learn about Daria online?

Great question! Digital outreach is helpful, but nothing replaces a real, face-to-face conversation. Studies show that talking to someone at their door makes them far more likely to vote. When voters meet a friendly volunteer who is passionate about Daria, it builds trust and excitement. Plus, we can answer their questions in real time and collect valuable information about who supports us, who’s undecided, and who we need to reach again

I’ve never knocked on doors before—what do I say?

First off, thank you for stepping up! Door knocking is one of the most effective ways to connect with voters. We’ll give you a simple script to follow, but the best conversations happen when you keep it natural and authentic. You’ll introduce yourself, let them know you’re volunteering for Daria’s campaign, and share a little about why she’s running. Then, you’ll ask them what issues matter most to them and if we can count on their support. Don’t worry—you’re never alone! We’ll train you and make sure you’re paired with someone experienced if you’re new to it.

What does phone banking actually involve?

Phone banking is when volunteers call voters to introduce them to Daria, answer their questions, and encourage them to vote. We provide you with a script, a list of voters to call, and a system to track responses. It’s a great way to reach people who we can’t always catch at the doors. Whether we’re identifying supporters, reminding people about election day, or helping voters make a plan to cast their ballot, phone banking is a crucial part of winning elections. And the best part? You can do it from home, from HQ, or with a group of volunteers!

Do phone calls actually make a difference?

Absolutely! A quick call reminds voters that there’s an important election coming up and helps us make sure they have a plan to vote. Many people don’t even realize there’s a local election happening until they get a call. Our job is to make voting as easy as possible by answering questions, helping people find their polling place, and making sure they know why Daria is the best choice for Erie.

I’m nervous about calling strangers—what if I say the wrong thing?

Totally understandable! The good news is we have a script to guide you, and no one expects you to be perfect. You’re just having a conversation—think of it as chatting with a neighbor. If someone asks a question you don’t know the answer to, just let them know you’ll follow up with our team. What matters most is that we’re reaching out and making those connections. And trust me, it gets easier with practice!.

What if I get voicemail? Do I leave a message?

Yes! If you reach voicemail, leave a short, upbeat message with Daria’s name, the election date, and a way to get more information. Something simple like:

"Hi, this is [Your Name] with Daria Devlin’s campaign for Mayor! We just wanted to remind you that the Democratic primary is on May 20th, and we’d love your support. If you have any questions, you can visit [campaign website] or call our team at [campaign number]. Thanks so much!"

Even if they don’t pick up, seeing a missed call from a real person can still make them more likely to vote!

I’ve heard about house parties—what exactly are they?

A house party is a casual gathering where supporters bring together friends, family, and neighbors to learn more about Daria and her vision for Erie. It’s a relaxed setting where people can ask questions, hear directly from the campaign, and find ways to get involved. You don’t need a huge space or a big guest list—just a handful of engaged people can make a difference. We’ll provide materials, talking points, and even help invite people. It’s a fun and personal way to spread the word and build momentum!

Why are house parties important to the campaign?

House parties build excitement and create personal connections. When someone hears about Daria from a friend or neighbor, it carries a lot of weight. They’re more likely to remember the conversation, stay engaged, and show up to vote. Plus, they give us the chance to recruit more volunteers and spread the word in a way that feels organic and community-driven.

I don’t know a ton of people—can I still host a house party?

100%! Even a small gathering can make a big difference. Think of five or six people who care about Erie’s future and would be open to hearing about Daria. We can even help invite people in your area who might be interested in attending. Sometimes the best house parties happen in small groups where people feel comfortable asking questions and having real conversations.

How do I talk to people who are undecided or skeptical?

The best thing you can do is listen first. Ask them what issues matter most to them, and find a way to connect Daria’s platform to their concerns. You don’t have to convince them on the spot—sometimes just planting the seed and giving them information is enough. If they’re undecided, we’ll follow up later. It’s all about having respectful, open conversations.

I don’t have a ton of time—can I still help?

Absolutely! Every bit of help counts. Whether it’s knocking doors for an hour, making a few phone calls, or even sharing campaign posts on social media, it all adds up. We appreciate whatever time you can give. Just let us know what works best for you, and we’ll find a way for you to plug in!
